Recent blackouts in Tehran have caused hardship in everyday city life. The power cuts which started in the summer have been blamed on the shortage of rainfall and drought coupled with increased electricity consumption which means that the existing hydro-electric plants cannot keep up with demand. The daily electricity outages have now eased, but the authorities have warned of further possible blackouts in the coming months.
