It is easy to make assumptions about the children people see working on the streets of Tehran. These children, many of whom refugees from Afghanistan, have little financial or social support and can expect little in the way of a regular education and under such circumstances it is easy to think of them as a lost cause.
But a recent exhibition of art works by these children in Tehran hopes to address such assumptions. By presenting these works of art the organisers want to show that although these children might have been the object of various social ills, they have the potential of showing many hidden, but often suppressed, inner talents. In fact, the curator argues, many of the works on display show more promise than those of the average child.
In this multimedia report we visit this exhibition and talk to a number of the artists and organisers who have contributed to this unusual show.
