Afghan families picnic on the hills and mountains surrounding Kabul during the holiday of Eid ul Adha (Eid Qurban), the festival of sacrifice. This festival remembers the prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son when ordered to do so by God. During the festival Muslims who can afford to, sacrifice domestic animals, usually sheep, as a symbol of Ibrahim's sacrifice. The Qurbani meat is distributed among family, friends and the poor. This day also marks the end of the Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca. It takes place on the 10th day of Dhul-Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic calendar. Kabul, 2010.
