A farmer collects his wheat crop in Bamiyan, the central region of Afghanistan. Bamiyan is a green and lush valley 200 kilometres (124 miles) northwest of Kabul, stretching through central Afghanistan, along ancient trade routes that once linked China with Central Asia and beyond. The town was home to Buddha statues from 6th century AD before they were destroyed by the Taliban, months before the regime was toppled in 2001. Bamiyan, 2010.
